According to TrendForce's latest report, Q3 2026 DRAM contract prices are expected to rise 8%-13% QoQ, driven by AI server demand and HBM capacity crowding out, confirming a clear memory cycle reversal. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix U.S. ADRs strengthened, opening an allocation window for the sector.

DRAM Contract Prices Rise for Second Straight Quarter; Storage Cycle Turning Point Confirmed, Asian Memory Chip ADRs Draw Strong Capital Inflows

As the construction of AI computing infrastructure continues to accelerate, the global memory market is entering an unprecedented upcycle. According to TrendForce's latest research report released on August 5, 2026, DRAM contract prices in Q3 are expected to rise 8%-13% quarter-over-quarter, with DDR5 server memory seeing even sharper gains. This marks the second consecutive quarter of sequential DRAM price growth, confirming an increasingly clear signal of a memory industry cycle reversal.

AI Drives Demand Explosion, DDR5 Supply Tightens

TrendForce analysts point out that the core driver of this DRAM price increase is robust demand from AI servers for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and DDR5. As NVIDIA's next-generation GPU platforms fully adopt HBM3E and gradually transition to HBM4, HBM's share of wafer capacity has risen significantly, squeezing the wafer supply for traditional DDR5 memory. Estimates show that HBM will account for more than 20% of total DRAM capacity in 2026, nearly double the 2025 level, continuously widening the supply-demand gap for standard DRAM.

Meanwhile, the PC and mobile device markets are slowly recovering, and OEMs are stocking up early, further intensifying the scramble for DDR5. Mainstream PC makers have already accepted double-digit contract price increases, and Q4 prices still have room to rise.

Contract and Spot Prices Move in Tandem, Confirming the Turning Point

In terms of price trends, DDR5 16Gb spot prices have risen more than 12% cumulatively since mid-July, while Q3 contract prices have also climbed. Historically, such tandem moves often signal a reliable bottom reversal in the memory cycle. A similar rally occurred in the first half of 2024, when HBM3E and DDR5 prices rose for three consecutive quarters on AI server demand.

Industry analysts believe this cycle may last longer than the previous one, as AI applications spread from cloud to edge, multiplying the memory capacity demand from edge AI devices. Smartphone DRAM capacity is moving toward 24GB, and AI PCs now come standard with 32GB, providing stronger and more sustained demand momentum.

Samsung and SK Hynix ADRs Are the Biggest Winners

In U.S. markets, Asian memory chip ADRs once again attracted capital flows last night. Samsung Electronics (OTC: SSNLF) rose 2.3% to a new high since the beginning of the year, while SK Hynix (OTC: HXSCL) surged 4.5%, bringing its market cap close to $200 billion. The two companies, which together control over 70% of global DRAM market share, directly benefit from the earnings leverage of the price upcycle.

In addition, Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU), the third-largest DRAM maker listed in the U.S., rose 3.1% last night, helping lift the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index. Analysts note that the memory chip sector has entered a "Davis Double Play" phase of rising earnings and valuations, with institutional funds rotating from other semiconductor sub-sectors into memory.

Upstream and Downstream Supply Chains Benefit Together

The memory price surge benefits not only chipmakers but the entire supply chain. Upstream semiconductor equipment and materials suppliers, as well as downstream interface chip and module makers, have posted solid gains. In particular, HBM advanced packaging supply chains—including TSV (through-silicon via) and bonding equipment—have order visibility extending to 2027.

However, some institutions have flagged risks. TrendForce cautions that if consumer electronics demand recovers less than expected in the second half or AI server shipments fluctuate, DRAM price growth could slow in Q1 2027. In addition, Samsung and SK Hynix's large-scale HBM capacity expansion plans could reshape the supply-demand landscape over the longer term.

How Should Investors Position?

  • Monitor daily spot prices: Track DDR5 and HBM spot quotes in real time to gauge the sustainability of short-term momentum.
  • Follow monthly revenue of leading companies: Monthly revenue disclosures by Samsung and SK Hynix are key indicators for validating the cycle.
  • Watch for high-level volatility: After sharp share price gains, the risk of short-term technical pullbacks cannot be ignored.

Long-Term Thesis Intact, But Precision Is Key

Overall, the AI-driven memory supercycle is far from peaking, and the upward channel for DRAM prices continues to extend. For investors tracking Asian memory chip stocks in the U.S., grasping the cycle rhythm and distinguishing real from fake demand will be the key to winning this feast.
